Tips on How to Not Overspend This weekend.

If you are anything like me you really look forward to your days off, and you may tend to overspend on those brunches and shopping trips (or is this just me). Well I’ve come up with a few things to keep my spending in line and help save money.

Tip 1: Plan and save ahead. Whether you are planning a Saturday lunch with some friends or a weekend trip, have the plans laid out and money already set aside.

**By already having the funds budgeted for leisure you can still stay on track with your savings. So often we try to save every penny we get, and end having a splurge that was not apart of the plan. This way you don’t feel like you are “missing out” during your savings journey.

Tip 2: Only carry your budget, meaning don’t leave the house with what you don’t want to spend. This can be tricky because anything can happen these days so you always want a contingency stash for those “just in case moments”.

***You can accomplish this by carrying cash or a prepaid card with your weekend budget on it. (There are some great options for low or no fee cards that don’t allow for over-drafting)

Tip 3: Hold yourself accountable, and don’t give in to the outside pressure to always be on the go.

*** I know this seems pretty basic, but setting hard limits for yourself is very important when it comes to overspending. I know for me personally there have been plenty of times where lunch plans turn into shopping trips. I think everyone needs that reminder to stick with your plan and say no to extras.

Tip 4: GROUPON!!!

****I can’t tell you how many times I’ve used groupon for planning outings. It is a valuable source for deals on a variety of actives you can do any day of the week. If you utilize this app (or website) during your planning stage you will be sure to save some cash.

I hope these quick tips help you as much as they’ve helped me!
